Environment: Forest cafe

For this project i wanted to explore my interest in foliage and environment art.

I got to learn a lot about making LODs, utilizing unreals Two sided foliage shading model, and rendering with the render queue.
I also had a lot of fun working on the lighting and composition.

For my foliage i have used Quixel atlases for the leafs, as well as some trunk meshes that i've extended with Speedtrees mesh converter tool.
I also used quixel materials for my landscape.

For a more realistic look of the trunks, I used SpeedTree's mesh converter tool to extend the Quixel trunks and generate materials.

I generated forces from the trunk mesh to guide the growth of the secondary foliage.

To add more variety to the trunks, i tweaked the SpeedTree master material. This way i incorporated moss and dirt, breaking up repetition.

I also did a setup for making seasonal variations of my trees. Something that I would have love to explored more if I had had more time.

I enjoy incorporating some 2D into my workflow, so I often draw alphas to make ingravings and extra details when texturing.

For my windows I made a glass material and a cube map material for the window in the top. This way I could create an illusion of a space within the top of the tea house.
